Iris
Portrayed by Kathy Bates. Manager of Hotel Cortez. Mother to Donovan. Catches Donovan receiving heroin from Sally, which causes him to overdose and almost die. She then pushes Sally out of a window, causing her death. Remains the manager to stay close to Donovan.
Detective John Lowe
Portrayed by Wes Bentley. A homicide detective for LAPD. Husband to Alex and father to Holden and Scarlett. Becomes under James’ influence, causing him to commit the 10 Commandment murders. Holden was abducted the same year at a carnival.
Alex Lowe
Portrayed by Chloë Sevigny. Mother to Holden and Scarlett, wife to John. Always distraught due to Holden’s abduction. Becomes distant to John after the abduction, causing strain on their marriage. Blames John for Holden’s abduction.
Sally McKenna
Portrayed by Sarah Paulson. A drug addict that lived in the hotel. Very manipulative, gave drugs to Donovan. Pushed out a window by Iris, but her ghost remains at the hotel.
James Patrick March
Portrayed by Evan Peters. Original owner and builder of the hotel. Committed many murders in the hotel, mentally disturbed. His ghost remains at the hotel, watching over things and taunting people. He has a violent and manipulative personality.
Liz Taylor
Portrayed by Denis O’Hare. A bartender at the hotel and sometimes shares the desk with Iris. Born as Nick Pryor, but later found herself when she began working at the hotel. The Countess helped her in this process.
Will Drake
Portrayed by Cheyenne Jackson. The new owner of the hotel, as well as a fashion designer. Father of Lachlan.
The Countess
Portrayed by Lady Gaga. Born Elizabeth Johnson, she lives as a vampire at the Hotel Cortez. Manipulative and powerful. Married James March, but later divorced him. Has many sexual relationships and usually kills her partners.
Donovan
Portrayed by Matt Bomer. Son of Iris. Drug addict, overdosed on heroin and almost died. Elizabeth infected him with her blood virus to save him. He is now just like her. He hates his mother and is alway filled with anger.
Ramona Royale
Portrayed by Angela Bassett. Former actress. Strong personality. A previous lover of Elizabeth, has the blood virus.
